Ship-wise, I dig intimacy between friends and allies, and screwed-up bleak bad-guy hatesex, and just about anything between those poles, really. I love noncon and dubcon, especially antagonistic or psychologically muddled angles and characters making difficult bargains using sex. I especially enjoy loyalty kink, agonized pining both reciprocated and unreciprocated, hurt/comfort -- especially hurt/comfort where the resentful recipient is weird about needing it!, sex happening before feelings and then feelings show up to the party and make everything weird, quarrelsome ride-or-die friendships turned romantic, and characters who just can't stay away from each other. I know my likes sound pretty grim, but I'm equally happy and thrilled to receive gentle domestic comfort!fic -- I love established relationships, makeshift domesticity, and characters building a life together against the odds.

I'm fine with any format/structure of fic, from casefic to character study to PWP. I'm cool with canon relationships of all stripes, background ships, OT3s and poly relationships, infidelity, etc. A lot of my canons deal on some level with real-life social issues (homophobia, sexual violence, abuse, etc.) and I often appreciate that as an element of these canons' texture; you're welcome to incorporate those social factors in fic or pass by them as you're comfortable.
I'm totally on board with AUs, especially those that riff on or echo the original canon events/ setting. Canon-divergent AUs are very welcome, as well as alternate settings, alternate time periods (14th century, 16th century, 1950s, 1990s...) and genre/pastiche AUs. Summer camp romp, film noir, 80s YA thriller, torrid romance novel? Let the world be your oyster there. I love AUs that racebend characters, always-a-girl genderswaps, and where characters are written as trans, though I prefer all of these not to be agonizing tales of unremitting prejudice and hardship or showcasing other characters' intolerance -- more of a "what if?" scenario that deals with different identity as well as the other elements of the canon. (For always-a-girl genderswap, I especially love fics with butch characters rather than fics where a character's suddenly very feminine. For transfic, I'm especially interested in fics where characters' canonical genders don't change, just their cis/trans status -- trans guy David or trans girl Star, for instance.) DNWs:
I'd rather not receive fic with self-harm, eating disorders, noncanonical suicide, noncanonical child sexual abuse, or unrequested incest. I don't want to read explicit sex involving characters under 16. Mentions of general teen romance and sexually active teenagers are just fine, as well as fic touching on canonical child sexual abuse and suicide.
Dislikes:
I don't care for unrequested teacher/student ships, generic modern-day mundane AUs, characters overhearing each other masturbating or having sex, spanking, "kissing practice"-type tropes, omegaverse elements, urban fantasy sexy werewolf tropes like packs and alphas, apocalyptic or post-apocalyptic settings, noncon where the victim starts liking it and consenting to it partway through, fic incorporating contemporary RL tragedies, or noncanonical elements of Nazism.
I'd also prefer no convenient female canon love interest disposal -- I'm always down for infidelity, polyamory/multiple concurrent relationships, AUs where canonical love interests never dated, and canon ships being framed as having broken up amicably at some point in the past, but not a festival of dead girlfriends or a primary emphasis on how past relationships don't matter in comparison to this One True Love.

- Relationship: Laszlo Kreizler/Marcus Isaacson
I confess this is something of a crackship but when has that ever stopped me? I love the book's milieu of massive elaborate lunches and nights at the opera in between social reform and busting serial killers and the show didn't disappoint me one bit on that front; these two have always been some of my favorites out of the cast but the show gave them even more stuff to do and so it stands to reason that they then have more stuff they could be doing together. Romantic late-night stakeouts, late night discussions of forensics and scripture, very cautiously navigating their respective family situations or any situation where Marcus being so bluff and handsome (and sometimes a little risque) and Laszlo being spooky and Byronic lends itself to red-hot detective-on-alienist action. I would love a fic where these two experiment in casual bisexuality or dabble in some BDSM with the expectation that no matter how weird Laszlo gets about the interplay of pain and pleasure, Marcus is cheerful enough about his ghoulish interests to even it out. Maybe they delve into the exciting homosexual underground of Gilded Age NYC and get to explore some pockets of it that are more puzzling and more humane than the seedy dives they stake out in canon? Or something set during Marcus' travels and education -- they can cross paths pre-canon when their eyes lock across a crowded lecture hall.

O most forbidden of my ships! I love both of these separately and so it stands to reason I must, therefore, like them together. My preferred flavor for incest shipping is incest ships who get together when they're both already full-grown adults and this is something I'd love to see with these two, the pair of them ending up in a weird codependent place and being privy to much too much of one another's thought processes during the course of their adult careers and education. There's some suggestions in the show that they've both been educated abroad -- did they travel together? Can they share the joy of esoteric forensics studies or all the highs and lows of being Roosevelt's prized ~warriors for justice~ in a police force that's so full of antisemitism? Their shared experiences give them a lot of history and a lot to be weird about, so it doesn't even have to extend to sex, I'd just love some screwy closeness. Or given Marcus' tendency to bang his dates and Lucius having to turn a self-consciously blind eye to it all, let things get jealous and weird and messy that way. Something dealing with the end of canon where they end up in a supportive and relatively functional menage a trois with Esther, but all three of them know it's a household with some weird stuff going on in it, or depressing bachelor twincest ftw.
Bonus porn prompts: arguing during sex, bed-sharing for a case gets weird and handjobby, partially-clothed or fully-clothed sex, ghoulish crime-solving talk or hands-on forensics demonstrations as foreplay, men in undershirts.
Fright Night (1985)
- Relationship: Charley Brewster/Jerry Dandridge
CREEPY PEEPING CREEPY PEEPING CREEPY PEEPING. These two can both be real assholes in their own separate ways and I'm obsessed with the ways they're framed as hero and villain -- Charley's at first voyeuristic and then more paranoid focus on trying to figure out what's going on in his neighbor's house and his neighbor's life, Jerry's absolute scorn and disdain for these punk kids that is really more of a scorn and disdain for humanity at this point. At the same time, Jerry clearly knows what makes hormonal suburban teens tick, and Charley isn't so squeaky-clean as far as teen heroes of the 1980s go. I'd love something where the voyeuristic cat-and-mouse game between them goes further, or something where they meet under different circumstances -- Amy and Peter Vincent can still be trying to unfuck the whole "Charley sees vampires" situation in a parallel plotline or you can focus on Jerry being a creepily effective modern predator in a sweater and Charley being freaked out/fascinated/transfixed. A scenario where Jerry wins and Charley's his reluctant trophy, or where Charley's the reincarnated love interest instead of or in addition to Amy? (Imagine a matched pair of those ludicrously sinister antique portraits.) Does vampire!Charley unlock his creepy vampire physiology like Amy does, and if so does he love it or hate it? I'd love Charley struggling to differentiate what parts of his discomfort are internalized homophobia and which parts are "holy fuck I think this guy is at least a murderer" and anything dirtybadwrong here would float my boat. If you'd rather flip things around and have a more even footing, what about something where it's Charley (and his wonderfully carefree 80s mom?) who's the vampire and Jerry just happens to be the fully mortal swingin' bachelor next door who notices something is up? Or a period piece, if you feel up to that, I have a massive fondness for vampire media of all eras and you could have a lot of fun with Jerry through the ages doing his thing.
Bonus porn prompts: creepy breathplay, creepy bloodplay, scornful deflowering, Charley trying to seduce Jerry successfully or unsuccessfully, the blood of a technical virgin tastes almost as good as the blood of an actual virgin…
The Hitcher (1986)
- Relationship: Jim Halsey/John Ryder
I'd love to read dirtybadwrong corruption, all kinds of terrible stuff happening to Jim, or for a change all kinds of terrible things happening to John -- either him taking a licking and keeping on ticking as in canon, or a reversal of their dynamic where it's Jim who has malevolent intentions picking up a hitchhiker on a country road late at night and it's amoral-drifter John who's in the crosshairs of some unwanted but extremely persistent attentions? These two can hardly be said to play nice with each other, so if you want to engage with some dark tropes or write something violent/creepy consider this carte blanche to take their relationship someplace weird and wild. What if Ryder does succeed in making Jim a little bit more like him? (Whether or not Ryder himself survives that kind of leveling-up in violence, given his death-seeking tendencies.) There's room for slasher-villain courtship rituals, mercy killing, and a whole lot in between. What if Jim had plenty in common with Ryder's more antisocial tendencies before they even met? (This could be a Pick Me Up-style serial killer vs. serial killer conflict, or something else entirely.) However, while I love the danger inherent in this relationship I'm also open to an AU where there's just a little more plausible deniability around how they meet -- something where John is Jim's extremely attractive but extremely shady secret admirer, for instance, or where Jim is another hitchhiker and John is the spooky older man who does him an occasional good turn when they cross paths on the road. I would also kill for a combination both-hitchhikers and genderswapped AU -- fem!Jim is a fresh-faced college girl trying to see America and willing to take some risks to do it, fem!John is one hell of a tough broad who can't seem to decide if she wants to take this sweet little chickadee under her wing or butcher her without delay.

It's impossible for me to see these two as anything but kinda dysfunctional together -- Michael's shaken by his parents' divorce and just finding himself in a new city, David seems so callous and jaded and bitter because in being a vampire for so long he's basically lost himself in terms of who he used to be before Max took him in -- and I'm totally into that. Make it as emotionally intense and tempestuous or as rough and strictly physical as you want -- reluctantly recognizing kindred souls in each other or fucking for dominance in between dangerous stunts and brutal murders, or both. Or an AU where Max wins but David is still chafing at the idea that they're all supposed to be some big happy family now and Michael sees a chance to overthrow the head vampire in charge. David is such a weird mystery even to the very end, and I'd love to see Michael getting to solve that mystery a little. It would be fun to see more of who David is when he's not just play-acting being everything Michael wishes he had the guts to be… but I would also not say no to just weird vampire-gang gangbangs.

I'd love to read something about the tension between these three, the animalistic nature and darkness that's already developing in Michael and Star even before they take the plunge into full vampirism and the cold protectiveness David has for both of them as his own fledgling vampires and his own consorts. David's a prickly bastard and a magnificent vampire jackass so I'd love to see fic about how the other two manage him, or don't -- do they team up against him? compare their experiences? do they stay vampires and function as his lieutenants, or does David return to mortal life at the end and suddenly find himself needing the two of them to reintegrate (or not) into daylit society? Is there a way for the three of them to get rid of Max and not accidentally off themselves in the process? I'm also on board for just filthy filthy three-ways -- David and Star feeding on Michael together and making it both painful and fun, Star and Michael ganging up on David for a polyamorous pansexual fuckfest in the basement of a half-collapsed defunct hotel, or the three of them taking turns with each other while refusing to discuss it because they're a bunch of ludicrously inhibited teenagers who happen to be vampires.

"They don't even meet!", you say. "They appear in completely non-overlapping seasons!", you say. "Ginsberg has massive hangups around the very concept of homosexuality that feed into his debilitating mental illness!", you say. Well… you're right, but fuck it. (FWIW, I'd prefer fic set after Ginsberg's psychotic break to give him a little bit of recovery and security, even if it's recovery by the standards of early-70s psychiatry.) Something with Michael getting accidentally/accidentally-on-purpose cruised by Sal, or where they meet in a pickup situation and only later find out a) they actually like each other and/or have feelings for each other b) holy shit, they could have been coworkers in another life. (Something where Sal comes back to SC&P in Don's absence and it sends Ginsberg's gay paranoia into overdrive?) Or on a happier note, Sal meeting Michael's father, or Michael self-actualizing his sexuality a little with Sal's help and vice versa -- Sal sort of gets the shaft in a narrative sense and he's in the closet out of necessity but he definitely seems to know himself and to like himself, in a way that might blow Ginsberg's mind. Or something in an AU where Michael, Sal, and Kitty become an inadvertent poly V. Ginsberg tries to make himself useful around the house, Kitty is relieved to have someone closer to her own age around the place who's a little less buttoned-up, and Sal is hunky patriarch over all.

They're both men with their own cautious principles, but when they first meet Lennox is such a mess that Marlowe looks positively sober and respectable in comparison and as they both learn more about each other's qualities and little mysteries it just firms up that bond of uneasy tenderness -- even when Marlowe has abundant reason to think Lennox has already shuffled off this mortal coil. Casefic with a romantic angle that creeps in despite Marlowe's best efforts, a romantic interlude that has fuck-all to do with any case or any mystery at all, an alternate take where Terry Lennox really is murderously bad news despite being a very polite war hero and Marlowe loves him anyway, Lennox continuing to haunt Marlowe a little after the timeframe of canon or a fic where their last meeting goes differently -- something where they're reunited or correspond with each other after parting ways, or even just something to do with the experience of falling for someone as you try to put together exactly who the hell they are and what their racket is. (Hell, I would also take absolutely any hardboiled/noirish tropes you want to party up with this pairing, up to and including wholesale AUs.) If you've ever longed to go to town on a Marlowe pastiche, I would love and welcome that for these two, but I also totally understand why you might not want to go there.

There's some suggestions in the show that they've both been educated abroad -- did they travel together? At the same time, Jerry clearly knows what makes hormonal suburban teens tick, and Charley isn't so squeaky-clean as far as teen heroes of the 1980s go. I'd love something where the voyeuristic cat-and-mouse game between them goes further, or something where they meet under different circumstances -- Amy and Peter Vincent can still be trying to unfuck the whole "Charley sees vampires" situation in a parallel plotline or you can focus on Jerry being a creepily effective modern predator in a sweater and Charley being freaked out/fascinated/transfixed. A scenario where Jerry wins and Charley's his reluctant trophy, or where Charley's the reincarnated love interest instead of or in addition to Amy? (Imagine a matched pair of those ludicrously sinister antique portraits.) Does vampire!Charley unlock his creepy vampire physiology like Amy does, and if so does he love it or hate it? I'd love Charley struggling to differentiate what parts of his discomfort are internalized homophobia and which parts are "holy fuck I think this guy is at least a murderer" and anything dirtybadwrong here would float my boat. If you'd rather flip things around and have a more even footing, what about something where it's Charley (and his wonderfully carefree 80s mom?) who's the vampire and Jerry just happens to be the fully mortal swingin' bachelor next door who notices something is up? Or a period piece, if you feel up to that, I have a massive fondness for vampire media of all eras and you could have a lot of fun with Jerry through the ages doing his thing.

These two can hardly be said to play nice with each other, so if you want to engage with some dark tropes or write something violent/creepy consider this carte blanche to take their relationship someplace weird and wild. What if Ryder does succeed in making Jim a little bit more like him? (Whether or not Ryder himself survives that kind of leveling-up in violence, given his death-seeking tendencies.) There's room for slasher-villain courtship rituals, mercy killing, and a whole lot in between. What if Jim had plenty in common with Ryder's more antisocial tendencies before they even met? (This could be a Pick Me Up-style serial killer vs. serial killer conflict, or something else entirely.) However, while I love the danger inherent in this relationship I'm also open to an AU where there's just a little more plausible deniability around how they meet -- something where John is Jim's extremely attractive but extremely shady secret admirer, for instance, or where Jim is another hitchhiker and John is the spooky older man who does him an occasional good turn when they cross paths on the road. I would also kill for a combination both-hitchhikers and genderswapped AU -- fem!Jim is a fresh-faced college girl trying to see America and willing to take some risks to do it, fem!John is one hell of a tough broad who can't seem to decide if she wants to take this sweet little chickadee under her wing or butcher her without delay.

It's impossible for me to see these two as anything but kinda dysfunctional together -- Michael's shaken by his parents' divorce and just finding himself in a new city, David seems so callous and jaded and bitter because in being a vampire for so long he's basically lost himself in terms of who he used to be before Max took him in -- and I'm totally into that. Make it as emotionally intense and tempestuous or as rough and strictly physical as you want -- reluctantly recognizing kindred souls in each other or fucking for dominance in between dangerous stunts and brutal murders, or both. Or an AU where Max wins but David is still chafing at the idea that they're all supposed to be some big happy family now and Michael sees a chance to overthrow the head vampire in charge. David is such a weird mystery even to the very end, and I'd love to see Michael getting to solve that mystery a little. It would be fun to see more of who David is when he's not just play-acting being everything Michael wishes he had the guts to be… but I would also not say no to just weird vampire-gang gangbangs.

David's a prickly bastard and a magnificent vampire jackass so I'd love to see fic about how the other two manage him, or don't -- do they team up against him? compare their experiences? do they stay vampires and function as his lieutenants, or does David return to mortal life at the end and suddenly find himself needing the two of them to reintegrate (or not) into daylit society? Is there a way for the three of them to get rid of Max and not accidentally off themselves in the process? I'm also on board for just filthy filthy three-ways -- David and Star feeding on Michael together and making it both painful and fun, Star and Michael ganging up on David for a polyamorous pansexual fuckfest in the basement of a half-collapsed defunct hotel, or the three of them taking turns with each other while refusing to discuss it because they're a bunch of ludicrously inhibited teenagers who happen to be vampires.

Or on a happier note, Sal meeting Michael's father, or Michael self-actualizing his sexuality a little with Sal's help and vice versa -- Sal sort of gets the shaft in a narrative sense and he's in the closet out of necessity but he definitely seems to know himself and to like himself, in a way that might blow Ginsberg's mind. Or something in an AU where Michael, Sal, and Kitty become an inadvertent poly V. Ginsberg tries to make himself useful around the house, Kitty is relieved to have someone closer to her own age around the place who's a little less buttoned-up, and Sal is hunky patriarch over all.

Casefic with a romantic angle that creeps in despite Marlowe's best efforts, a romantic interlude that has fuck-all to do with any case or any mystery at all, an alternate take where Terry Lennox really is murderously bad news despite being a very polite war hero and Marlowe loves him anyway, Lennox continuing to haunt Marlowe a little after the timeframe of canon or a fic where their last meeting goes differently -- something where they're reunited or correspond with each other after parting ways, or even just something to do with the experience of falling for someone as you try to put together exactly who the hell they are and what their racket is. (Hell, I would also take absolutely any hardboiled/noirish tropes you want to party up with this pairing, up to and including wholesale AUs.) If you've ever longed to go to town on a Marlowe pastiche, I would love and welcome that for these two, but I also totally understand why you might not want to go there.
